Student Research Centers Network Schleswig-Holstein

For all pupils in Schleswig-Holstein

The Schleswig-Holstein Student Research Center Network (SFZ-SH) is a joint project of the Joachim Herz Foundation (Hamburg), the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of the State of Schleswig-Holstein, and the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN). At the start of the 2017/18 school year, student research centers were established within the network at a total of six locations in Schleswig-Holstein. In February 2022, two additional locations were added. Here, students can work on their own research questions. Girls and boys at the network's student research centers have access to well-equipped facilities and individual support from qualified staff. In addition to the schools, universities, other research and educational institutions, and companies are regionally integrated into the centers' services. This provides students with the opportunity to learn about working in research networks and to develop and implement creative solutions together.

The decentralized structures give a large number of students access to scientific research, as close as possible to their school or home and regardless of the type of school. In cooperation with excellent scientific institutions, interest in the STEM subjects is thus intensively fostered in Schleswig-Holstein. Students also receive extensive support to develop their talents, as is the case, for example, in the fields of music or sports.

The SFZ-SH locations

The 13 hub schools and the Kiel Science Outreach Lab are equally available to all students in Schleswig-Holstein. The Dithmarschen Nord site includes rooms for student research at both the Meldorf Community School and the Werner Heisenberg High School in Heide.

The Dithmarschen South site consists of the Gymnasium Brunsbüttel and the Gymnasium Marne. Both schools offer facilities for students who are enthusiastic about research. Kiel has set up a student research center in the rooms of the Kiel Science Outreach Lab in the Botanical Garden of the CAU Kiel. The Hermann Tast School and the Theodor Storm School in Husum jointly operate a central student research center at the Hermann Tast School in North Frisia. At the Pinneberg site, rooms at the Elsensee Gymnasium in Quickborn are open to students who are enthusiastic about research.

At the Schleswig-Flensburg site, the Dannewerk School in Schleswig and the Lornsen School each run their own student research centers. In Bad Segeberg, the Dahlmann School runs the student research center for the Segeberg site. Young researchers at the Stormarn site are supervised by three schools. Rooms are available at Trittau High School and in Bargteheide at Anne Frank School and Kopernikus High School.
