New approaches in the field of visual science communication
As an interdisciplinary research center for science communication, the KielSCN develops new approaches for the communication of scientific content by focusing on the visualization of information and its perception. For this purpose, the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education, the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design and Kiel University have joined forces: with our combined expertise in the fields of educational research, information design and innovative health research, we want to jointly raise visual science communication to a new, forward-looking level.
Connecting research and practice
In addition to the academic institutions, media partners from the field of science communication such as Spektrum der Wissenschaft, kurzgesagt.org and Nordeutscher Rundfunk as well as the non-profit organization opencampus.sh are also involved. These partnerships help to anchor our research in science communication practice and to establish KielSCN as a central point of contact for participatory, visual science communication in the long term. As one of four consortia in Germany, the Kiel Science Communication Network is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation over a period of five years in the funding line Science Communication to the Power of Three - Centers for Science Communication Research.
