The IPN has had an internal graduate school since fall 2012. It offers doctoral students an initial orientation to the structures and methods of the institute and conveys essential skills for the best possible start to independent research.
The IPN Graduate School program consists of lectures, exercises, seminars and workshops. Special emphasis is placed on teaching common research designs in educational-psychological research as well as quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods. Participants also acquire basic knowledge about the scientific research process and paths to a doctorate, about data protection and ethics in research and about the importance of good scientific practice.
An annual methods week, the IPN Winter School, rounds off the regular events during the semester. Numerous workshops are offered at the IPN Winter School by internal experts from the Department of Educational Psychology Methods and Data Science as well as by invited experts from other research institutions. Workshop content ranges from introductions to common statistical software packages to broad and beginner-friendly evaluation methods and complex statistical procedures for advanced students.
In addition to the IPN Graduate School, there is a welcome event for all new employees of the IPN and a mentoring program accompanying the doctorate.
Doctoral candidates can attend the IPN Graduate School events not only at the beginning of their doctoral project, but also throughout the course of their doctorate.
